I've bought some 54mm Historex plastic horses, to see how much I like painting 54mm minis by starting out with a favourite painting subject. (Yes I really do like painting horses). Actually it is a double test, as I've also been reading about pastel techniques on model horse websites, so I bought some artists pastels (those little crumbly sticks) and after a couple of attempts on 28mm figures (a horse and a camel - see the galleries) I decided that I'd be better off trying to use them on something more comparable to the size of the models that the model horse people collect.
54mm is quite small in model horse circles... but it is bloody huge when you are used to 25mm and 28mm minis. It is kind of daunting to see these Godzilla scale horses looming over everything else in the painting queue! I intend to do a couple in acryllics as per normal and then a couple in pastels, to see how the techniques and results compare. Results announced here as I get them done. |
